Cambodia Gambling Dens
Saturday, 10. October 2015
There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which casino gaming is against the law. Eight gambling dens are based in a generally tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect location, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; still, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 1700, and though visas are apparently needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of many borders.
The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship casino, contains one hundred and fifty slots and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 table games, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel building that highlights many conveniences on top of the gambling hall, which offers ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
