There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is illegal. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime location, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 1700, and despite the fact visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are methods around this, as is accurate of many borders.
The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel building that highlights a number of luxuries in addition to the gambling den, which contains ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and eighty eight tables.
